About Me

As my family’s fourth generation of Capitola residents, I feel a strong connection to our beautiful city. My parents met here as children in the 1970’s. My paternal grandmother was on the Begonia Festival Queen’s court in the 1960’s and my maternal grandfather served for decades with the Capitola Police Department. My great-grandparents once owned Petersen’s Coffee Shop on the Esplanade in Capitola Village. The coffee shop housed one of the paintings that now hangs in Capitola City Hall.

Even when my family moved away for a period in my childhood, we would return to Capitola every weekend. I have childhood memories of walking to Capitola Village to get ice cream in the summer, being dropped off at the Capitola Mall to shop with my cousins, and watching the Begonia Festival’s Nautical Parade with my grandparents. This city has been good to me and my family, and I want to take every opportunity I have to give back.
